The computers proved too complex for some temporary workers who tried to use them in a test last year in North Carolina. Also, the computers were not initially programmed to transmit the large amounts of data necessary.

Paper kills!!!!
But seriously. I’m excited by this due to playing around on Ancestry.com.
There is something a little magical about a paper record with the names of people, their occupations, and family members encoded every ten years. You can learn so much by looking at the pages around someone: their neighbors, trends in occupation, where they were born. It is amazing.
Of course, we lost most of the 1880 census in a fire, so it’ll be good to have a backup these days. 😉
